You don't want what you think you do

We all make assumptions. Often times it is just efficient to do so. But what about those assumptions we don't even know we are making? Especially in regards to what we think we want.

We ask for things from the universe all of the time. But most of the time, what we are asking for is not the root of what we want, it is just assuming that we can only get what we really want if we ask for certain things.

How about taking it up a notch and only asking for what you really want, and not necessarily what you think you need to get yourself there.

For example, let's say you want a new job and you say "I want a new job." But what you really want is financial security and safety. Maybe you can get this some other way, aside from working at a new job. Is that acceptable to you? Then ask for that and see what comes up. You may not even want financial security, you may have to go a level deeper into that desire, like a feeling safe or free. There is a chance that getting that job doesn't satisfy those true desires. It could actually just make those things you really want take longer to come to you. You could get a job that costs you a lot in laundry, time and energy and all you have left at the end of the day is a stronger sense of lack. Let me give you a few more examples of common assumptions I find.

You want to be thin (or have a thin significant other). Maybe you really just want to be happy with yourself and healthy. Or maybe you want to be able to get around easier or fit into some new clothes. Being thin is just what you think you need to have those things. You are assuming by being thin, you will have what you want, but chances are you will still have the same gap even if you achieve that goal, if you are coming at it from the wrong place.

You want to make more money because you think that will give you more time with your family and more happiness. But you find out making more money costs you more time and causes you more reasons to be stressed.

Opening yourself up to the possibilities that your needs (and desires) can be met in unexpected ways, opens your manifestation abilities up to a whole new level your life has yet to see. If you go just beyond the “how” of getting that need met and just ask for what you really want, encourages the manifestation energies to work with you to give you what you really want.

Give it a shot….

Insightful Inspiration

You can have what you want, but you might want to check in with the difference between what you think you want and what your heart really desires. Dig a little deeper than an assumption of what you think you want and see if you can be more specific to the universe. Here is a format to use to walk yourself through it (With an example):

What do I want? More connected time with my kids

Why do I want it? Because I want them to know that I value them and enjoy being around them.

Why do I think this is important? Because it is important for their self esteem and I want to know I am raising happy, healthy kids. I want to have a connected  relationship with them their whole lives. (there are several new desires showing up here that you can walk through this whole thing with)

What do I really want? (refining from questions above) I want to feel connected to my kids. I want my kids to grow up happy and healthy.

You can see that this can looped this around and around until you get to the bottom of what you really want. But this is a pretty simple way to find out what is at the heart of the issue.

You can also use this technique to write pretty great affirmations as well. After you find out what you want, you can affirm it with a present tense statement, feeling words and a direct request.

Affirmation: I feel connected to my children who are growing up happy and healthy.

Feel free to share your affirmations or deeper desires. Here is a nice video on working on your manifesting space.
